What is “JUNRAY DANCE CHANG”?

Asa-chang & Junray is a unit known for their unique music that belongs in-between pop and avant-garde. They have a large number of followers in Japan as well as overseas, particularly in Europe. This project began when their desire to collaborate with dancers/ actors/ musicians/ fine artists. Using their broad and intimate networks, they have selected the perfect group of artists and performers to create a stage experience that goes way beyond a simple collaboration of musicians and dancers. Thanks to his sensibility as a musician and to his unique career in the past as a hair make-up artist, Asa-Chang’s original perspective readily transcends the existing framework of performing arts. With the unheard-of combinations of artists and performers, empowered by a refreshing direction and mesmerizing stage sets, Junray Dance Chang creates a unique experience on the stage unparalleled by any before or since.

Their highly appraised JUNRAY DANCE CHANG was performed at Super Deluxe (Roppongi) in 2006. Their second and even more splendid show Aoiro Gekijou was performed in 2009. Not only did it feature notable dancers in today’s contemporary dance scene (Shigehiro Ide, Mineko Saito, Nagisa Sugao and Masako Yasumoto), it also invites marvelous guest performers such as Kumagai Kazunori, the globally acclaimed tap dancer based in New York and Japan, and ANI from Schadaraparr, the significant figure in the Japanese Hip-Hop music scene. The audience got to see a remarkable interaction on the stage between these gorgeous guest performers and the ground-breaking music unit ASA-CHANG&JUNRAY.
