Sound / sculpture / performance artist
Born in Tokyo in 1964, Ujino Muneteru graduated from the Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music in 1988. In 1993 he created a prototype for a new sonic sculptural instrument - the "Love Arm" - which he incorporated into numerous live performances and continues to develop. Ujino teamed up with fellow artist Hiroyuki Matsukage four years later to create the band art unit "Gorgerous", and in 2003 he was a participating artist and a prize winner in "The 6th Exhibition of the Taro Okamoto Memorial Award for Contemporary Art", Taro Okamoto Museum of Art, Kawasaki.
Since 2004, Ujino has been working on a new sound sculpture and project - "Ujino and the Rotators". The Rotators was exhibited as part of the 2005 Ars Electronica Festival (Linz, Austria) and at the 2006 Biennale of Sydney (Sydney, Australia), where he also performed. Ujino and the Rotators was also exhibited solo as part of the "Alive Art Matsuri Vol. 1" at Yokohama's Bank Art Studios NYK.
In June 2007, Ujino will participate in the exhibition "Thermocline of Art - New Asian Waves" at ZKM (Karlsruhe, Germany). At this time he will also participate in the art fair Liste (Basel, Switzerland), where he is also planning live performances.
