Outline of projects

A new theatrical series pairing the theatrical company chelfitsch with the artist Teppei Kaneuji. Taking escape from anthropocentrism as their theme, what questions do the works pose to contemporary society, which was confronted with a tremendous force in the form of Covid-19? The debut of Eraser Mountain in October 2019 was followed by the museum edition titled Eraser Forest and Eraser Field, which was deployed in everyday space. The series has thereby changed its appearance in various ways by installing the same concept in different venues, but is again coming back into theaters.

In addition to planning and producing the ordinary performances, precog was assigned to plan and produce a completely new type of viewing experience that would reach people who have found it hard to go to theaters so far. In so executing this assignment, we created an involvement with works that went beyond merely viewing a performance in a theater.

Outline of works

Theater freed from the “human yardstick,” updating our vision of the world space, and language appear in unknown forms…

Through theater, an activity for people, is it possible to bring forth a world in which human beings, things, and the environment surrounding them all exist in a flat relationship?

The city of Rikuzentakata in Iwate Prefecture incurred immense devastation in the Great East Japan Earthquake. Earthwork construction aimed at raising the level of the ground to prevent damage from tsunami artificially altered the landscape with an amazing rapidity. Toshiki Okada’s idea for creating a work that questioned the “human yardstick” sprang from a firsthand look at this sight. Eraser Mountain, the resulting play, was prepared in collaboration with the artist Teppei Kaneuji, who continues to expand the domain of sculpture. In space cluttered with countless items, actors build a new relationship with objects, and audiences come to see the world with a new vision.
